In the Magadan region, the number of moose
In the region, according to the Department of State Inspection of the Magadan Region, the livestock of the elk is almost 25 thousand animals. The number of deer on the Kolyma also increased. Employees of the department assume that this is due to the migration of moose and deer from Yakutia and Chukotka.
The current situation was commented on by Vadim Uzhvenko, head of the department for supervision, protection and use of fauna objects of the Department of State Surveillance of the Magadan Region.
“On the territory of the Magadan Region, indeed, there is an increase in the number of moose,” said Vadim Uzhvenko, “this is due to the restoration of the population. In Soviet times, it was more than 25 thousand individuals. However, in the 1990s, when the national economy suffered, including hunting, and the moose population declined significantly due to uncontrolled hunting. Therefore, from the end of the 1990s to 2009, there was a ban on hunting moose in Olska, Khasyn, Yagodninsky, and Susuman districts of the Magadan Region. And this led to the fact that the number of moose in the region has increased significantly. In addition, the number of users of hunting resources, organizations of individual entrepreneurs, which are protected by hunting grounds, has increased. They conduct winter route accounting of resources, including ungulates. And the more such users, the more they cover the territory, and the better the winter routing. Hence the indicators of livestock have become more reliable.”
Asked whether the number of hunting permits will be increased, Vadim Uzhvenko replied: “On August 1, the Governor’s decree was signed, and the limit for hunting for moose increased 1.5 times compared to 2015. If then there were a little more than 300 individuals, now it is already allowed to shoot 546 moose. This is the limit for the entire territory of the Magadan Region. Both for users and for public areas.”
According to the regional legislation, during the first ten days after the opening of the hunting season, one hunter has the right to obtain one moose. To date, according to Vadim Uzhvenko, hunting permits have already received 500 residents of the region. In total, about 11.5 thousand holders of a hunting license of a single federal sample were registered in the region. According to the department’s forecast, this winter no more than 2.5 thousand people will be engaged in hunting. Many uncover their guns only in the spring. As for prey and hunting luck, during the hunting season from September 1 to October 15, many hunters did not achieve last year’s results for waterfowl, geese, ducks and kulik. It is difficult to predict the arrival of birds during the hunting season. And the Department of State Security Supervision does not deal with forecasts. It is the prerogative of scientific institutions. The amount of game mined by game hunters depends on many factors, including, from constantly changing climatic conditions, fodder base, etc.
